Top Gun: Maverick is an upcoming American action drama film directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The film is the sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun and stars Tom Cruise, who returns as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a Naval aviator who is now a flight instructor and mentor to a new generation of pilots.
The plot follows Maverick as he navigates the changing landscape of modern warfare and comes face to face with his past, confronting ghosts he thought he had put to rest. Along with Cruise, the film stars Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Ed Harris, Miles Teller, and Val Kilmer, who reprises his role as Tom "Iceman" Kazansky.
Top Gun: Maverick was originally scheduled to be released in July 2019, but was delayed several times due to production issues and the Covid-19 pandemic. The film is now set to be released in theaters on May 27, 2022.
